Eresos
Eresos Village is built on the southwesterly part of the island and is located 89 km away from Mytilini City (the capital of the Island). Its name is associated with Eresos, the son of mythical king Makaras, the first colonizer of Lesvos. Eresos is the birthplace of Theophrastus and Sappho, the great lyric poetess of Greek antiquity. The volcanic landscape, the traditional setting, the exceptional beach and the historic monuments make this place ideal for visitors to linger and explore.
Skala Eresos (side photo) is the seaside part of Eresos village. From May till end of September the main tourism activity is there offering many options regarding accommodation, restaurants, markets, bars etc. There is also the famous beach of Eresos and nearby is the Monastery of Taxiarches Pithari (photos below).
Osho Afroz Meditation Center is located 2.5km away from Skala Eresos in the nature within the Kampos (plain, photos below) of Eresos. The Sigri area (where the famous Petrified Forest is located—a premier UNESCO Global Geopark formed 18-20 million years ago by volcanic eruptions) is around 25 km away. Other beautiful places to visit near Afroz are Molyvos village (55km away) and Petra (47km away).
Lesvos Island
The amazing island of Lesvos is the third largest in Greece. It has a mild Mediterranean climate, a rich flora and fauna, springs, olive groves, many picturesque traditional villages, delicious local products (such as ouzo and olive oil). Beautiful places to visit is Mytilene city (the capital, where the airport and the port is located), Plomari (the mother land of Ouzo spirit isnce 1860), Molyvos (medieval castle), Sigri (Petrified forest). The Island has also many significant and historic Orthodox churches and monasteries, which serve as major pilgrimage sites and cultural treasures.
