Work As Meditation


Work as Mediation (WAM) is for anyone who would like to explore living in an intense and yet relaxed way. The program creates a safe environment that supports meditation and celebration: a space in which every moment is an invitation to become aware. It offers an abundance/range of unique experiences such as sitting silently under the Oak Tree, coming together in the evening meeting or simply chopping vegetables with new friends. Work as Meditation gives you the experience and tools to enhance and deepen the quality of your life.

WAM is an invitation to jump into the mystery of life.  You will go wherever there is a need in the commune for 4 hours every day, 7 days a week. The experience is playful, yet grounded in reality. You may find yourself: working in the kitchen, digging in the garden, serving at the bar or cleaning rooms. Be ready to be flexible.


The focus is not the work itself: not what we are doing, but rather how we do it. The point is to be total in your awareness and playfulness while working. In the modern lifestyle, stress and work are almost synonymous. Working harder to get some benefits in the future has become the modern mantra: more money, more prestige or even more relaxation. We become so accustomed to this future oriented mindset that we miss the present moment. We miss our lives.


In WAM Program, we pay to work seven days a week. In the communal setting, we meet and interact with people from all around the world. We give support, and receive support from each other. It is an opportunity to learn and show respect for the uniqueness of ourselves and those around us. This helps us to see the conditionings that we all carry about work. We often consider work in terms of prestige: 'Who's got the better job?' or 'That's beneath me'. WAM brings awareness to these sorts of conditioned attitudes. It allows us to respond to life rather than react to it out of outdated patterns. It is a way to become more natural, creative and alive. To discover what has been forgotten.

Included in the program are two one-day workshops. (check out the dates and description) They are designed to give you the tools you need in order to get the most from Work as Meditation. They will also help you to bring the benefits of the program into your everyday life. Also, there are regular workers meetings, special events, meditations and many opportunities to come together and share in the creative life of the commune. Indeed a very rich experience.

The highlight of the day is the Evening Meeting when everyone comes together to meet in silence and celebration. This is a time for deepening your sense of awareness. This experience is at the heart of the commune as it develops the art of being present throughout the day, whether at work or at play. This knack of being present becomes the key to transform everyday activities.

This program makes OSHO Afroz a unique meditation center. Its existence is built around this essential experience of awareness, meditation and celebration in everything we do. It is a rare meeting place where we can share our love, silence and commitment to the path. It is a place in which we can all support each other in bringing a sense of what is beyond into all our daily activities.

Skills for a Playful Living with Vikalpo

We spend most of our day in what we call 'work' - we work so that we can have 'free time' later. Creating such splits in our daily lives often prevents us from living more fully and in an integrated way.
In this course, we explore different energies that we are unaware of but are, in fact, always available to us, such as Totality, Awareness and the Heart. This course is designed to give you the tools for creating the environment for a playful living where all the aspects of our daily lives become integrated.

"The idea behind the support program for the Work as Meditation in Osho Afroz was born last year. The theme was how to use daily activities for awareness and inner growth while the food gets prepared, the dishes done, and the bathrooms cleaned.There is plenty to be aware of and to play with; likes and dislikes, attitudes and beliefs around 'work'. What's easier or more fun to work alone or in a team, to be the boss or the 'sandwich boy'. What brings satisfaction. Modes of working. Focus and distractions. Just to name a few. We start and end the day with an inquiry to remember that we are much more than what we do and how we do it. What connects us inside and with others is our beingness and that's where all joy and love wells up from, where we are free and whole.
