Work As Meditation

A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Work as Mediation (WAM) is for anyone who wants to experience life in a commune with totality, in a beautiful meditation field that allows you to bring the quality of presence, love and relaxation to what we normally call work.

The program creates a safe environment that supports meditation and celebration: a space in which every moment is an invitation to become aware. It offers an abundance/range of unique experiences such as sitting silently under the Oak Tree, coming together in the evening meeting or simply chopping vegetables with new friends. Work as Meditation gives you experience and tools to enhance and deepen the quality of your life wherever you live and whatever you do as work in your life.

WAM is an invitation to jump into the mystery of life, experiencing spontaneity and creativity in its essence.  You will go wherever there is a need in the commune for 4 hours every day, 7 days a week. The experience is playful, yet grounded in reality. You may find yourself working in the kitchen, digging in the garden, serving at the bar or cleaning rooms in a space of sharing and friendship. Be ready to be flexible.

A DECONDITIONING OF THE WORK ETHIC

The focus is not the work itself: not what we are doing, but rather how we do it. The point is to be total in your awareness and playfulness while working. In the modern lifestyle, stress and work are almost synonymous. Working harder to get some benefits in the future has become the modern mantra: more money, more prestige or even more relaxation. We become so accustomed to this future oriented mindset that we miss the present moment. We miss our lives.

So, this is the opportunity to remember how it is to bring joy and presence back to work.

HOW IT WORKS

In the WAM Program, we contribute financially to work seven days a week. In the communal setting, we meet and interact with people from all around the world. We give support, and receive support from each other. It is an opportunity to learn and show respect for the uniqueness of ourselves and those around us. This helps us to see the conditionings that we all carry about work. We often consider work in terms of prestige: 'Who's got the better job?', `I can do it better` or 'That's beneath me'. WAM brings awareness to these sorts of conditioned attitudes that are chasing us wherever we go. It allows us to respond to life rather than react to it out of outdated patterns. It is a way to become more natural, creative and alive.

The program includes a special 7-day workshop with Ganga using Zen Inquiry for deepening awareness while working. There are regular workers meetings, special events, meditations and many opportunities to come together and share in the creative life of the commune. There are other extra treats that the WAM participants get during their stay at OSHO Afroz.

The highlight of the day is the Evening Meeting when everyone comes together to meet in silence and celebration. This is a time for deepening your sense of awareness and integrating the experiences of the day. This experience is at the heart of the commune as it develops the art of being present throughout the day, whether at work or at play. This knack of being present becomes the key to transform everyday activities. It is indeed one of the most enriching experiences of the commune.

"That which cannot be said has to be experienced. This is a great experience of getting into the inner space. Something is experienced in this gathering which no one has been able to define. This is the highest peak of the whole day's working, meditating or doing groups in the Commune." OSHO

THE IMPORTANCE OF MEDITATION AND CELEBRATION

OSHO Afroz is one of the very few Meditation Centers in the world where you can experience this unique program. Its existence is built around the essential experience of awareness, meditation and celebration in everything we do. It is a rare meeting place where we can share our love, silence and commitment to the path. It is a place in which we can all support each other in bringing a sense of the beyond into all our daily activities.

"The work that is happening in the commune is not really what it appears from the surface. It is something else – it is a device! We have to use devices.

"And whatsoever is happening in this commune is nothing but different ways to introduce you to meditation. Whatsoever is happening apparently it looks as if it is the same ordinary thing as happens everywhere else but with a different quality. That quality cannot be seen. You will have to become a participant only then will you slowly feel it. That quality is of trust, love."

"The idea behind the support program for the Work as Meditation in Osho Afroz was born last year. The theme was how to use daily activities for awareness and inner growth while the food gets prepared, the dishes done, and the bathrooms cleaned. There is plenty to be aware of and to play with; likes and dislikes, attitudes and beliefs around 'work'. What's easier or more fun to work alone or in a team, to be the boss or the 'sandwich boy'. What brings satisfaction. Modes of working. Focus and distractions. Just to name a few. We start and end the day with an inquiry to remember that we are much more than what we do and how we do it. What connects us inside and with others is our beingness and that's where all joy and love wells up from, where we are free and whole.
Looking forward being with you"
